During the Iron man match at Bragging Rights, Randy did not only lose his title to John Cena, there was interference by Kofi Kingston. The following night Randy confronted Kofi about it, who in return destroyed the car Randy's loyal friends had given to him the very night to cheer him up.

Remember when a kid that was by all means no older than 25, came into the Smackdown ring and fought against Hardcore Holly? Reminescences of seeing him and say well good athlete, just the hair is a bit noob? Yeah that was the Orton of the past, before the fame. Mark the day on your calendar: April 25, 2002. His debut day, the beginning of the glory.
Yet you knew that he had potential. Scrawny, maybe but he was athletic. Besides he was already famous for the genes he possessed. Son of the great "Cowboy" Bob Orton and grandson of Bob Orton Sr. Coming from a wrestling family he kind of reminded you of the Rock who was also a 3rd generation superstar at the time. Well Orton started as a face, however just a few months after his debut, his shoulder was dislocated. Note that he suffers from hypermobile shoulders, which is when your arms and fingers stretch more that an normal person's do. And so he would host a weekly segment the Randy Orton news. Cocky, arrogant, a bit whiney hehe, he was heading towards his transformation in a heel competitor.
And indeed he turned heel. And that heel turn would be the reason for his induction in one of the most famous, stylish and dominating factions of that time, Evolution. With leader the then World Heavyweight Champion and unanimously famous wrestler Triple H, legend for hs infamous Figure Four Leg Lock and 16 time Champion Ric Flair, and sided by the "Animal" Dave Batista, Orton was the last member to join this nearly unstoppable team of four. For two years they would occasionally have enemies of the likes of Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, HHH'S arch nemesis Shawn Michaels and others until the fall of 2004.
December 14, 2003. This was the day that skyrocketed Evolution to the upmost pinnacle of RAW brand. Batista and Ric Flair became World Tag Team Champions, Triple H captured the prestige Heavyweight Title from a Triple Threat Match...and last but certainly not least, Randy Orton defeated Rob Van Dam to become the Intercontinental Champion, a title which he would go on to hold for over 7 months, making him the longest reigning IC Champion in the last twelve years.
Since September though, Orton began to establish himself a "The Legend Killer". He had spat Harley Race and delivered RKO on Fabulous Moolah the day of her birthday. Michaels stepped in his way, only to be defeated in Unforgiven, marking the very start of the Legend Killer era.
However, Orton proved that he was capable of champion material over the next months. His chance finally came when he won a Battle Royal, and became the No. 1 contender for the title in 2004 Summerslam ppv. The day came. His opponent? The Crippler Crossface and Wolverine, Chris Benoit.
After 40 minutes of a exceptionally good wrestling match, Orton ascended to absolute greatness when he deliverd the RKO to Benoit ending the match. Orton became the Youngest World Heavyweight Champion earning the title at the tender age of 24. This day and the ones that followed were supposed to be the happiest for the Champ.
Evolution had other plans...
No sooner than 24 hrs later, Evolution came to celebrate with Randy after his win over the rematch he had with Chris Benoit. Batista raised him on his shoulders, and HHH handed him the thumbs up....which seconds later, turned into a thumbs down...orton was shocked, his mind slowly registering that this was not going to be a celebration. As he realised it, Batista threw him down after HHH told him two words that would spoil everything "Do it"
The massacre that followed was brutal, Orton layed bloodied at the hands of HHH where he was declaring to everyone that he was the one true World Champion...and that event marked the birth of a new rivalry..
